Dalyan, a beautiful small town untouched by excessive buildings, offers a vast green area with unique characteristics. One of its main attractions is the stunning 7-kilometre sandy Iztuzu Beach, which can be reached by a 45-minute boat trip. This beach is particularly significant as it serves as a nesting ground for Caretta caretta sea turtles. From May to September, female turtles come to the beach to lay their eggs, monitor them, and guide their babies to the sea.
Another interesting experience in Dalyan is a 15-minute boat trip to the sulphur bath. Many visitors find this to be a unique and refreshing experience. The mud in the bath contains sulphur and other beneficial elements that are believed to be good for the skin. Additionally, there is a small spa where you can simply relax and unwind.
Near modern Dalyan, you can explore the ancient city of Caunos, which was founded around the 9th century BC. Originally a Mediterranean city port, Caunos gradually became separated from the sea due to the accumulation of silt from the Dalyan River. The city is renowned for its impressive rock-cut tombs, which were constructed as burial sites for kings and important individuals. In the past, these tombs were filled with food, money, jewelry, and other valuable items as offerings for the afterlife. Unfortunately, due to grave robbers, little remains in the tombs today.
Dalyan is located approximately 200 kilometres away from Bodrum. The journey takes around three hours, passing through forests and countryside villages, allowing you to enjoy the picturesque scenery along the way.
